A vibrant minimalist lithograph in colors on Arches 88 paper titled “EK/Spectrum I (From Portraits)” by Ellsworth Kelly. Hand signed bottom right with an annotation of 19/50. Published by Gemini G.E.L., Los Angeles, with their blindstamp and copyright inkstamp on the reverse, 1988. The composition of this artwork features a single portrait repeated through a spectrum of colors. Up close, the delicate lines of color that make up the portraits can be seen as they fall into abstraction. From a private collection. Ellsworth Kelly (1923-2015) was an American painter, sculptor, and printmaker associated with hard-edge painting, Color Field painting and minimalism. His works demonstrate unassuming techniques emphasizing line, color and form, similar to the work of John McLaughlin and Kenneth Noland. Kelly often employed bright colors. Kelly’s first solo exhibition was held at the Galerie Arnaud, Paris, in 1951. His first solo show in New York was held at the Betty Parsons Gallery in 1956. His work was later included in the documenta in 1964, 1968, 1977, 1992. A room of his paintings was included in the 2007 Venice Biennale. Kelly’s first retrospective was held at the Museum of Modern Art in 1973. Today his artwork can be found in countless museum collections and Kelly’s pieces regularly sell for seven figures.
